Alhaji Baba Tela is the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State. He served as the Senate Member, representing Bauchi North Senatorial District. He has held several positions in the Nigerian banking and finance industry. In 2011, he contested for the governorship seat of Bauchi State, under the platform of the now-defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), but lost.

Political History
Baba Tela broke into politics when he served as the Special Assistant to the President on Economic Matters, between 2001 and 2002. He left this position due to his election as the Senator representing Bauchi North Senatorial District. He held this seat until 2007. During his time as a senator, he was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications.
Following this, in 2011, he contested for the Governor of Bauchi State, under the now-defunct Action Congress of Nigeria. In 2013, Tela returned to the People’s Democratic Party.
He was selected by Bala Mohammed to be his returning mate in the Bauchi State general elections of 2019 – of which they emerged winners, making Tela become the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State.

Criticism/Controversy
- In January 2021, the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bauchi Chapter, expressed their dismay over the treatment they received from Baba Tela. According to them, Tela harassed some journalists at his office before the commencement of a press conference. Tela allegedly told the journalist that they were not needed, when they went to cover a meeting they were invited for.
