Otunba Bisi Kolawole is the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate for the Ekiti State 2022 gubernatorial elections. He is a former member of the Ekiti State Assembly, who served in this capacity from 2007 to 2011. He was also the Commissioner for Environment under the administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Personal Life
Born on 20th September 1956, to the family of Chief Ezekiel Kolawole of the Meyolanu Dynasty, and Mrs Alice Mojirole Kolawole, a native of Modakeke. Bisi hails from Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State.. Bisi grew up in Ile-Ife but had to move to Efon-Alaaye in 1961 when his father was given the position of High Chief Obaloja, which was the third in the leadership hierarchy to the Oba of Efon-Alaaye. He thus continued growing up in the Obaloja palace of his father and had an early exposure to politics. Kolawole is married to Deaconess Adeola Kehinde Kolawole, from Ikere-Ekiti. They are blessed with children.

Political History
Kolawole moved from Lagos to Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti in 1999. Following this, he became a Supervisor in the Efon-Alaaye local government. In 2007, he was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party to represent Efon-Alaaye in the Ekiti House of Assembly. He served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Works until he left the house in 2011.
In October 2014, Governor Ayodele Fayose appointed him to his administration as a Special Adviser on Environment, and in July 2015, he was made the Commissioner for Environment, Ekiti State. He held the position till the end of Fayose’s administration in October 2018. Following this, he contested in the 2019 general elections to represent Efon-Alaaye in the House of Representatives. Although, he was unsuccessful.
Kolawole is a member of the Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party. In 2020, when he ran for Chairman of the Ekiti State PDP Chapter, he received 1,651 votes out of the 1,690 delegates that were eligible to vote. Thus, he became the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Ekiti State. Kolawole however resigned from his Chairmanship post in September 2021, joining the race for the Ekiti governorship seat.
On the 26th of January 2022, in the PDP primary election for the governorship poll, Bisi Kolawole polled 671 votes, while his closest rival, Olusegun Oni, got a distant 330 votes. Kolawole emerged as the PDP candidate for the 2022 Ekiti State gubernatorial elections.
